National Historic Site
In San Francisco Bay area, in Martinez
Naturalist John Muir lived in this 14-room Victorian home from 1890 until his death in 1914. Also preserved are 325 acres of open space and 8 acres of the fruit ranch. Muir served as first president of the Sierra Club and advocated the creation of Yosemite, Sequoia, Mount Rainier, and Grand Canyon national parks. The site was authorized on August 31, 1964.
